Ride with Pride Rainbow Taxi

A classic London black cab has been transformed with a LGBT pride rainbow to mark the Internation Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia on Sunday May 17.

Taxi driver Ian Beetlestone has debuted his freshly-decorated cab today, to raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights across the world. It will join TfL’s route 8 rainbow bus in this year’s Pride in London parade on June 27 to celebrate London’s diversity. Ian, who lives in Islington, said that gay cabbies like him “are like gay footballers - you know statistically there must be some but you rarely hear about them. I wanted to stand up and be counted. I’ve dreamed about driving a rainbow cab and am thrilled to have made this dream a reality with the help of TfL and Ubiquitous. “As we mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia this Sunday, I want everyone to know they are welcome to hail a ride in our iconic, beautiful vehicle.” Taxi advertising firm Ubiquitious, who paid for the entire transformation of the cab, said they were pleased to “deliver an important message” through the eyecatching design, which includes information on how Londoners can report homophobic and transphobic crime through the Report It website.
