The PCO (Public Carriage Office) have divided the 22 suburban London Boroughs into 9 Yellow Badge Sectors. Some sectors cover more than one borough, the largest consisting of four boroughs. Once you have learnt and qualified within your chosen sector you will then be licensed to ply for hire only within that sector. However, you are obliged to take any customer up to 12 miles on any one journey. If this journey goes outside your sector you must then return to your own sector before you can again legally ply for hire.

Having qualified in one sector you can if you wish commence learning another sector, however you are only allowed to learn one sector at a time.
