Taxi Trade Promotions was established in l975 as a partnership specialising in publishing cab trade literature. The success of our Blue Book Runs resulted in a demand for more training material and a training facility and so in 1985 we became a Limited Company and Malcolm Linskey, Managing Director opened Knowledge Point School in an old School Building in Owen Street, Islington.

We quickly outgrew the space we had in the School and in l989 we moved to our present premises in Caledonian Road where we have been ever since. We have always had a small shop within these premises, but as this was expanding we took the decision to open our shop at 24 Penton Street, N1 opposite the Public Carriage Office.

Malcolm Linskey has over 30 years diverse experience in the industry. Malcolm qualified as a licensed taxi driver in 1971. Following a short period working solely as a taxi driver he put his old skills in the publishing industry to work by contributing to and editing trade publications. A highlight during this period was his co-writing “Taxicabs - A Photographic History”. Other involvements in the trade have included running a fleet of cabs and a Taximeter Company. He eventually founded Knowledge Point School in l985 and has been fully involved with running the School ever since. Malcolm is a Past Master of the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, a Livery Guild in which he still takes an active interest, particularly in educational matters.

Patricia Linskey joined the Company in 1985 to assist with finance and administration and today is the Company Secretary.

Our IT and print production is handled by Mathew Linskey who has over 15 years experience in the print and IT industry.

Tracy Laird is our Trainee Liaison Manager working closely with trainees on the administration side.

Derek O'Oreilly is our Senior Knowledge Tutor, he is vocationally comptent and has various qualifications in the delivery of training. Derek has been with Knowledge Point for 7 years and has built a reputation for his skills in the subject.

The team at the School is backed up by our Irene Ryan, Shop Manager, plus a range of part-time staff with specialist skills from Driving Tuition to Yellow Badge areas.

Today Knowledge Point School is the oldest and most successful taxi driver training school ever. Over 25% of all existing licensed taxi drivers have been trained by us since l985. It is the only taxi driver training facility in the UK to have been awarded a Grade 1 rating by the Government’s Adult Learning Inspectorate and the only Knowledge School to have direct Contracts with Jobcentre Plus and the Royal British Legion.
